Wolfenstein 3-D is the game that brought world attention to first-person shooter games. It is considered the father of all modern 3D games.

The complete source code was released by id Software on July 21, 1995, only three years after the game's release. It can be downloaded from id Software's FTP server. This was the first in a long line of source-code releases by id, and paved the way for their later success by designing and selling game engines to other game developers.
