Deep Images

It's possible for an LBM file to have no palette, but to contain just raw color data. These so called 'deep images' are not described on the page, but I'm not sure where it would be appropriate to describe them. I've never seen one in the wild. Carbon14 (talk) 08:14, 29 September 2014 (GMT)

This sort of thing would probably be fine under the Notes section if it's a paragraph or so. Any longer and it probably deserves its own section. You could also add it to a new "Caveats" section if you can think of anything else to be aware of when working with the file format that isn't immediately obvious from the format specs. -- Malvineous (talk) 17:52, 3 October 2014 (GMT)

Data types

The IFF specification uses quite a few signed data types. For the most part the various IFF formats on this site incorrectly use unsigned types. Negative data turns up very rarely in most of these formats, is it worth worrying about?. The BMHD chunk of the LBM file format is a good example, the first two fields are UINT16BE and the next two are actually INT16BE. Carbon14 (talk) 13:50, 29 September 2014 (GMT)

Where possible the article should match the most common use case, with a note nearby if this differs from any official spec. In this case if the two alternatives are rarely encountered, the article should probably follow the spec, so please feel free to change them to signed types. If a particular game is alone in diverging from what it says here, then a note should be made on the game page itself to highlight the difference.
