Renaming 'sprite' to 'actor'

Been whined at by Lemm and assorted people, apparently the term 'sprite' applies to graphics only and the terms I should have been using for all the 'sprite' patch stuff is 'actor'; is there any way to systematically change the term 'sprite' in patch page titles (and maybe text) to 'actor'? I am told that a bulk search and replace will do the text in pages, but the page titles must be renamed manually. (This second part would be a simple task for me, could you handle the first part?). --Levellass 02:41, 17 July 2011 (GMT)

Blurry Images

All the GBC images you uploaded look blurry. Please don't convert a compressed jpg to a png, save it directly from the screenshot to a png. If you saved these images directly to png, maybe you should deactivate all visual effects in your emulator, to get a clear image. Tulip 19:06, 22 November 2009 (GMT)

It WAS saved directly from a screen-shot, with no visual effects. -- DHeadshot 19:08, 22 November 2009 (GMT)
Obviously some effect was aplied to the image, maybe while you tried to resize it. I uploaded a new version of GBCStory1a.PNG, so you could see what I mean. Tulip 19:15, 22 November 2009 (GMT)
Didn't resize it. What emulator did you use? -- DHeadshot 19:36, 22 November 2009 (GMT)
I used REW with 2x size graphics. You should be OK with others if you choose 1x size graphics and disable all filters. Tulip 20:45, 22 November 2009 (GMT)

Citations

Hi DHeadshot - just letting you know that I removed most of the citation templates because there were too many of them just to say "citation needed". I left the 'citation needed' one itself (just trimmed the code down a bit) because I agree it could be useful, but I reverted your edit on Defense Tunnel Sorra because I don't feel we need citations on gameplay elements (after all, which official source is going to document those that we could link to? I think we are fast becoming the official source ourselves...) We should only need citations for real-world facts, e.g. release dates, trivia about the games' production, etc. If it's related to the game itself then it doesn't need a citation, but enough of a description to verify the fact yourself is probably in order. By the way, I get the feeling you're looking for something to help out with - don't forget that there's a large number of pages that need work done on them if you're in a helpful mood. -- Malvineous 01:13, 25 April 2010 (GMT)

Fair enough - Thanks -- DHeadshot 04:58, 27 April 2010 (GMT)

Image categories

Hi DHeadshot, I notice you're starting to categorise things which is great. You might want to take a look at the existing image categories (for example Category:Keen 4 images so that your GBC categories use a similar structure. Generally we try to keep image categories separate to article categories, otherwise (as it the case in Category:Keen GBC) you get a bunch of unrelated images appearing as you're trying to browse through article categories. -- Malvineous 21:36, 10 May 2010 (GMT)

I didn't realise there were pure image categories. Since it took all day to categorise them to their current positions, could you use your admin superpowers to bulk recategorise them (or is that not a feature? If not, it seems like a strange omission, given the amount of use it would have.)? -- DHeadshot 12:00, 11 May 2010 (GMT)
Yes I can probably do that (I wrote a MediaWiki extension to do it because that functionality doesn't actually exist by default!) But I wanted to let you know for new categories. If you do want to categorise a bunch of pages you can just send me a list of the pages (e.g. on my talk page), one per line, and I can add them all into a category for you if that's easier. -- Malvineous 12:38, 11 May 2010 (GMT)
Hi again - you're doing a good job of categorising all the images on the wiki, if you'd like I can set you up with a bot account so you can use my extension (see above) to edit a bunch of pages at the same time. Basically you just copy and paste a list of page names into a text box, click 'go' and it adds them all to a category. However it is very easy to ruin a whole bunch of pages with one click, so you do need to be careful :-) -- Malvineous 23:13, 16 May 2010 (GMT)
Wow, I'm honoured you would be willing to give me that sort of thing! That would be awesome, thanks :). -- DHeadshot 10:24, 17 May 2010 (GMT)
No worries, if you're willing to help out that much with the wiki the least I can do is make the job easier :-) You'll need to sign up for a new account, and remember to log in with that new account *only* to perform these types of edits. The reason is that they are classed as "bot" edits, so they don't show up in most of the change logs that everyone keeps an eye on. I only learnt this a couple of days ago, which is why a whole bunch of my edits are missing from the 'recent changes' page (unless you choose to show bot edits.) I don't want a repeat of that! Once you let me know the username of your account (I suggest something like DHeadshotBot) I'll grant access and then you should be able to load Special:MassEditRegex. Make sure you use the preview function to be sure it will do what you expect, and try not to edit too many pages at once - after about 30-40 it can get a bit unreliable and stop half way, which is a pain trying to reapply the edit but only on pages that weren't changed, etc, etc. Probably best to limit it to 10 pages at a time anyway until you get used to it, as the preview will only show up to 10 pages, and of course the first nine might be fine and it's the 10th that has a problem, as is always the way ;-) -- Malvineous 12:40, 17 May 2010 (GMT)
Account name is Ddlyhbot - DHeadshotBot is a bit long. -- DHeadshot 17:00, 17 May 2010 (GMT)
Done, try not to break anything ;-) -- Malvineous 21:42, 17 May 2010 (GMT)
Awesome, thanks! I won't be able to do much for the next few days (exams), but I'll do more when I can... -- DHeadshot 10:53, 18 May 2010 (GMT)

Hello there

Hi there. I'm Xterra1, and I haven't been on since about early 2009, so I didn't get a chance to say thanks for all your hard work on this wiki. Keep it up. -Xterra1 22:32, 10 July 2010 (GMT)

Keen remixes

Hi DHeadshot, in a PCKF thread from June 2010, you mentioned that you still have TMST's Eat Your Veggies remix for Disco Keen. And also another one I don't know, named "Kill-Dope". Many years have passed, but maybe you still have the files? They could be added to the Keen Remixes page (and Eat Your Veggies to the Disco Keen page itself, too). --Grandy02 (talk) 07:46, 10 July 2021 (GMT)

Hi Grandy02, I'm pretty sure these files are on my Win2K machine (not turned on since about 2011, so who knows if it works), but they might be on the Windows XP laptop that replaced it and I think that's backed up, so I *might* be able to find them. It'll involve some searching and the Windows 8.1 machine I usually use has just died so it might be a while until I get around to that, but at least I've seen your message now so I know to look. -- DHeadshot (talk) 22:09, 18 October 2021 (GMT)
All right, thanks, hopefully the files are still around somewhere. --Grandy02 (talk) 15:02, 7 November 2021 (GMT)
Hi Grandy02, I've looked on my backup from my XP machine and in some files I salvaged from my old 500GB external HDD before that failed and I can't find these files (I have DopeJaws.mid, but I suspect that's more widely available). My Win2k machine has a duff PSU and may even have a dead HDD by now, so I can't check that. Sorry. -- DHeadshot (talk) 18:25, 11 November 2021 (GMT)
Too bad, but thanks for checking. Yeah, Dopejaws is on the Keen Remixes page. --Grandy02 (talk) 21:28, 13 February 2022 (GMT)
