Keen having a free ride.
Messie is a creature living in the vast seas of Vorticon VI. Messie is harmless to Keen and will in fact carry him on its back around the seas. Messie seems to swim on the water's surface and eat green sea plants.
It seems its existence and nature are not well-known, thus the rumours about "the giant beast of Loch Mess". Messie is probably based on Earth's Loch Ness Monster, also known as "Nessie".
In addition, Messie (or rather riding on it) is the only way (without cheating) to access the secret level in Keen 3.
Messie does not ever actually appear within a level of the game, but rather on the world map.
