Map of Lifewater Oasis

Lifewater Oasis is a level in Keen 4, located in the far reaches of the Shadowlands desert.

It consists of a lush zone with tropical trees and tunnels filled with Raindrops. Below the tunnels there is an underground pool (which might be made of the same life-giving water as the Raindrops), containing many Lifewater Flasks. The oasis also has a small mound, which contains the way to the trapped Council Member in this level.

The lower tunnel of the level is a secret area, reachable from a hidden passage on the first ledge after Keen first drops down. A switch can be used to activate a platform that will take Keen back to the main tunnels through another hidden passage. The lower, Lifewater filled area cannot be reached, however, though it seems it was not originally planned that way.[1]

The level is quite simple, requiring only to go through the first tunnel, and then back up climbing some floating platforms to reach the top of the mound. Once there, Keen can go down and into the stone door to the Council Member cave. In that area, Keen has to jump over some falling platforms, and go down to get the green gem for the door trapping the Member. After that, Keen has to activate a moving platform to reach the door, and jump over other falling platforms to get to the Gnosticene.

The level is populated mainly by Poison Slugs. There are also a couple of Wormouths, Mimrocks and a Thundercloud.

Miscellaneous info

  • The last area is special in that it contains a chasm that seems to lead nowhere. However, there is actually floor that cannot be seen below (it's offscreen, see Chasm of Chills for a similar trick), as well as eight Jawbreakers in total, and even a hidden Mimrock.
  • There are 21,100 points in this level. That includes 32 Shikadi Sodas, 2 Three-Tooth Gums, 7 Shikkers Candy Bars, 12 Jawbreakers and 1 Doughnut (3,200 + 400 + 3,500 + 12,000 + 2,000 = 21,100). Unfortunately, there are no Ice Cream Cones at all. What more, due to the level error mentioned above, 49 drops along with the five Lifewater Flasks are inaccessible without cheating. The dying Keen routine allows the collection of point items and, indeed, lifewater drops; however the Flasks are not collected even if dying Keen intersects with them. There are 79 more drops in the level, meaning 128 of them in total.
